Walker Hackensack Akeley High School is a public high school located in the tourist town of Walker, Minnesota. Pursuing the goal of always doing what's best for their students, fans and community, they decided to incorporate a ScoreVision system into their school.
Brian Marcus, Assistant Principal and Activities Director for WHAHS, first approached ScoreVision because he wanted to elevate the game-time experience and bring a more professional feel to the school. He also wanted a way to provide opportunities to the students and athletes that they may not normally receive in a small town.
For the students, building a curriculum around the system was a huge component for him. The production and scoreboard software is remarkable and makes all the difference.
"Our students create the content that is displayed on the LED scoreboards and they are able to take full ownership of that,” said Darin Schultz, PE Teacher and basketball coach said. "It allows us to incorporate technology, and get the kids to learn in different ways. Things like the starting lineups, to the national anthem and accolades; you can tell it excites and motivates the athletes. It makes them feel important and like a big time college player.”
Brian also mentioned that the support team is hands-down, second-to-none. “I have the personal cell phone numbers of the techs, and I know them on a first-name basis. They are spot on and right there. From start to finish, it's been a seamless product and I really appreciate the customer support that ScoreVision currently provides and will continue to provide as we continue down this partnership together.”
WHAHS is yet another example of a school that understands the power of technology and the opportunity that ScoreVision provides. The school currently use their ScoreVision system to host community events, graduations, dinners, and also include it into their broadcasting and video production curriculums and athletic programs.
“We are more of a hub for our small town than ever before,” Marcus said.
